Em escrito artigo por Richard Stallman,
"Lance Software Livre Caso Você Trabalhe em uma Universidade",

é feita uma citação da Univates.

A Univates, localizada na cidade de Lageado, no
Rio Grande do Sul, é o exemplo mais marcante de
um modelo de desenvolvimento de software inteiramente
baseado em software livre.

No artigo do Stallman, a Univates é citada no
seguinte parágrafo:

Porém nem todas as universidades tem políticas restritivas.
A Universidade do Texas, tem uma política que determina que,
por default, todos os programas desenvolvidos lá sejam licenciados
com a GNU GPL. O mesmo aconteçe na Univates, no Brasil, e no
Instituto Indiano de Tecnologia da Informação, em Hyderabad.
Tendo o apoio do corpo docente, você terá mais chance de propor
